Will blogs be a good way for us to communicate about the concerns of school and youth librarians? Or will they just be a short-llived fad until something even more effortless comes along?

This blog is an experiment, an attempt to find a more interactive way to communicate.

I think blogs will be a good way to communicate. It is just making the time to practice and experience them.

I think blogs should not be advertised as the greatest “piece of gold” to hit the net for professionals to share and exchange information about how they conduct their professional business. Are professionals being put at risk by putting their names and institutional names out their on the web? School security is an important issue these days. I believe in sharing ideas and how to’s with my fellow librarians, but feel there are ways to accomplish this without the use of blogs. Web pages can offer more distance from web users than blogs can. Blogs give too much personal information about the blogger; I feel bloggers will reflect not only their professional thoughts, but add personal thoughts as well. Thanks for listening. Deborah

Blogs give only as much personal information about the blogger as the blogger CHOOSES to publish. If a blogger decides to include personal reflections, that is their editorial and authorial choice: some do, and some don’t.

I’ve been delaying this part of our assignment because of feeling like I just don’t have time right now to find and read blogs. But, as Terrill said above, I do agree that blogs have their place…it’s just taking the time to practice and feel comfortable with this style of information sharing. I think the format/style might change over time, but I also think the blog and its ‘children’ are here to stay.

Unlike email listservs that can sometimes overwhelm our inboxes, blogs can be a more manageable style of communication that we can go to when we have a chance.
